![]() ![]() Harris gave in because, as de Laurentiis made no secret about publicly, the producer threatened him with the idea of another writer crafting the backstory of Harris' signature character. That didn't matter to de Laurentiis, who effectively coerced Harris into writing the Hannibal Rising book, then adapting that into a film script. Harris had absolutely zero interest in writing one, and had seemingly ended Hannibal's saga with his namesake book. ![]() Never one to give up, de Laurentiis approached Thomas Harris with the idea of a Hannibal Lecter prequel. ![]() The problem was, there weren't any more books to mine for material. After 2001's Hannibal and 2002's Red Dragon both made big bucks at the box office, de Laurentiis found himself wanting more Hannibal Lecter movies. ![]() ![]() The scars Red carries run deep, and living with PTSD often means battling the memories of his past. At least we should regard it as an important historical text regarding the time that right-wing Jews and evangelicals began to collude - when a largely quite anti-Semitic group of people began to embrace Zionism. ![]() Yet somehow it’s often not regarded as intersectional “enough.” Fine, fine. Right-Wing Women, in one MAN’S opinion, should be regarded as a foundational intersectional text the entire argument of the book is about the relations of anti-Semitism, racism, age, poverty, sex work, welfare and hatred of gay people, all as related to hatred of women. After I got done muting everyone involved, I decided to re-read Andrea Dworkin’s Right-Wing Women, much of which consists of her account, published in 1983, of the National Women’s Conference in Houston in 1977. What if they've lost their verve and zest for writing and are now just doing it to put out one more book? But gosh, I didn't need to worry at all. I can't believe this is Elin Hilderbrand's 28th novel (of which I've only read a paltry few)! I'm always a little hesitant when an author has been around for so long. Following along with Adrianna’s journey was like routing for my favorite gymnast at the Olympics. I’ve always been a fan of watching gymnastics on TV so reading this series and getting an up close and personal look into the sport was really special. To put it simply, Ria and Kova are pure fire, consuming and explosive and scorching hot. The spicy scenes are hot AF but there is also so much raw emotion behind every moment with these two. Ria and Kova’s love story is raw and messy but also passionate and intense. There were times he acted like an total asshole and his decisions were questionable at best, but it became clear how deeply he cared for Adrianna. Kova is the true definition of an anti-hero. ![]() And these books are not short! I don’t think I can pinpoint exactly what it is that had me so captivated but this forbidden age-gap romance about a gymnast and her coach was so addictive I couldn’t put it down. I'm not saying there are no big tricks in it, it's just not the focus. My general issue with the film is lack of big bangers, the central focus of this film is on flip in flip out ledges or multi trick ledges which some people call curb dancing and while that is really cool and impressive, I think we all know people love to see BIG stairs, gaps and rails. Pretty Sweet comes after the likes of other Girl(ish) skate films like Yeah Right and more recently Lakai's Fully Flared. First up, I like it, but it's not mind blowing.
